How Car Insurance Saved Me Money
It was about two years ago, and I was at Durbanville Football Club, watching some local games and having fun with my friends.
My car was parked on one of the fields that had been turned into a car park and not for one minute did I even worry about the safety of my car.
Later that evening, when I was ready to go home, I returned to my car, and suddenly it felt like the ground had been pulled from under my feet – on the rear-passenger side, someone had clearly crashed into me and the damage did not look good.
Hopeful, I looked around for a note with contact details, but found nothing. Someone had hit me, and simply drove away.
The next day, a case was opened at the local police station and on Monday I started getting quotes to have my car fixed.
Replacing the back-light, rear-bumper, side panels and the boot lid on my VW Polo would cost me in excess of R35 000 – not many people have that amount of money lying around and I certainly did not.
Thank goodness, however, for the fact that I had car insurance and could rely on that to help me out financially. Through the car insurance, I was able to save around R33 000 of the costs to repair my car.
Before this incident, I always frowned upon the need for having car insurance and saw the monthly payments as being a waste of money. Now that I know how quickly something can go wrong, even if it’s not your mistake in any way, I am very glad that I was covered.
I’ve heard some horror stories about insurance companies who try everything they can to NOT pay your car insurance claim, but lucky for me, my insurance company had no issues with helping me when I needed them most.
The claim process was fast and efficient and my car was fixed and good as new in no time.
If you are wondering whether or not to get car insurance, take it from me – GET IT. You never know what bad fortunes await around the next corner.
