The Rainbow Nation is Alive
Last night I attended the Football match between South Africa and Nigeria, at the majestic Cape Town Stadium.
I always love going to Bafana games, not only for the Football, but for the general vibe. Say what you want, but Rugby and Cricket fans do not come close to South African Football fans – the passion and pride is amazing. The most colourful bunch of folks you will ever meet.
During the National Anthem I came to the realisation that South Africa, as a Rainbow Nation, is still very much alive.
We continuously hear about white genocide, farm murders, BEE, quotas in sport teams and all sort of post-apartheid negativism. Nights like last night, offer a sense of relief, when one realises that all is not lost in South Africa and there are still plenty of people who remain positive and who have moved on from issues that we were never part of.
When a black man can sing “Uit die blou van onse hemel…”, fist on heart, while a white man throws his head back, bellowing “Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso…“, you realise that all is most certainly not lost in this beautiful place we call home.
“I dream of an Africa which is at peace with itself”
Now, to convince the rest of the people that Perth is not the place they really belong….
